Scoop is a clever and lighthearted comedy that weaves together elements of mystery, romance, and a hint of the supernatural. The story centers on Sondra Pransky, a driven yet somewhat inexperienced American journalism student who is spending time in London. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she attends a magic show by Sid Waterman, a lovably clumsy magician who goes by the stage name "The Great Splendini." During the performance, Sondra is suddenly pulled into the middle of a high-stakes news story.
As part of his act, Sid accidentally summons the spirit of Joe Strombel, a recently deceased investigative journalist. Joe shares a bombshell tip: he suspects that Peter Lyman, a wealthy and charismatic aristocrat, might be the infamous "Tarot Card Killer," a serial murderer who has been haunting London. Eager to make her mark in the journalism world, Sondra persuades Sid to team up with her and investigate Peter.
To get closer to Peter, Sondra poses as a sophisticated socialite and manages to win his attention. As their relationship deepens, she finds herself captivated by Peter’s charm and elegance, sparking a passionate romance. Yet, despite her growing feelings, Sondra can’t shake her journalistic curiosity. She begins to wonder: is Peter truly the kind and gentle man he seems, or is there a darker side to him that he’s hiding?
As Sondra and Sid delve further into their investigation, they uncover evidence that both points to Peter’s guilt and suggests his innocence. The boundary between truth and lies becomes increasingly hazy, forcing Sondra to grapple with her emotions—her affection for Peter and her relentless drive to uncover the truth.
